José Raúl Capablanca, Cuban Chess Champion, in Memphis–1909, 1910, & 1915

According to A History of Tennessee Chess by Peter P. Lahde  and The Unknown Capablanca edited by Hooper and Brandeth, four Capablanca simultaneous exhibitions took place in Memphis TN.


The first chess exhibition of Mr. Capablanca took place on Feb. 11, 1909 with 13 wins and 4 draws. His second display in the Bluff City was on Dec. 11, 1909 with 10 wins. The third Memphis simultaneous was held on Dec. 12, 1910 with 13 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. The fourth and final Memphis exhibition took place on March 29, 1915. The future World Chess Champion's results that day: 15 wins and 2 draws.
